PBIS

Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports

PBIS is an three-tier evidence-based framework for improving and integrating all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. It is a way to support everyone to create the kinds of schools where all students are successful.

PBIS isn’t a curriculum you purchase or something teachers learn during a one-day professional development training. It is a commitment to addressing student behavior and choices through systems change. When it’s implemented well, students achieve improved social and academic outcomes, schools experience reduced exclusionary discipline practices, and school personnel feel more effective.

PBIS Systems Create an Inclusive & Safe School Environment:

The Toolbox Project

TOOLBOX™ is a simple and practical metaphor directing children to the experience and awareness of 12 innate "Tools" that already exist inside them. Opening the door to authentic relationship to self and others, TOOLBOX naturally encourages social equity through empathy, understanding, and 12 skills or practices to navigate the complexities of everyday life.

Restorative Practices

Promotes inclusiveness, relationship-building and problem-solving, through such restorative methods as circles for teaching and conflict resolution to conferences that bring victims, offenders and their supporters together to address wrongdoing.

Soul Shoppe PeaceMakers

The Peacemaker Program is a Student Leadership program that trains a team of select 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to solve problems and provide allyship and communication support to their peers. The Jan Goodman Peace Path empowers students to be upstanders and resolve conflict through restorative practices.

Acknowledgement Systems

Ruby STAR Cards reinforce the behaviors we want to see. These are given by teachers, office staff, family volunteers, and student leaders. STAR Cards are randomly drawn out of a collection box by the Vice Principal once a week for student recognition and reward. Students can also redeem STAR cards in the classroom with teacher incentives and classroom Star Stores.
